Afrikan New Year

It’s that time of the year again.

For those of you who don’t know, naturally the end of the year is Winter and the beginning is Spring. According to Google the Spring Equinox in the Southern Hemisphere will be on Saturday the 23rd of September in 2023 at 8:49 am. Inzalo ye Langa, Tswalo ya Letśatśi or Rebirth of the Sun.

The past few months of winter have been a time to reflect on the year that has passed and the lessons and blessings that have come up. The next 2 weeks we need to make it clear of the themes we’re leaving in this year and the themes we’d like to take or build in the new year.

Since the New Year is on a Saturn-Day(Saturday) that gives the energy of self-discipline, hard work, patience, justice and rational thinking while Saturn will be in the sign of Taurus which rules the 2H of money, possessions, assets and earnings. Taurus is ruled by Venus which represents love, money and beauty. Venus will be in Leo which rules the 5H which is represented through leadership, fun, passion and the spotlight. Leo is ruled by the Sun which will be in Virgo(last degree before it changes to Libra an hour from 8:49) which rules the 6H which represents analytics and observation ruled by Mercury which represents communication, technology and curiosity.

• Basically we need to be disciplined and patient regarding our responsibilities, to communicate our curiosity about money, earnings and assets. To be detached and truthful regarding love, beauty and money in our friendships and within humanity. Analyzing and observing communication, technology changes and our curiosities. 

If I calculate this correctly though all the planets are in opposite signs as it is the beginning of the year which is represented by Aries. The reason I say correctly is because even in the Southern Hemisphere we use the same signs as the Northern Hemisphere, even the same holidays when in actuality we are in the opposite sign to them hence the opposite season. So Saturn would be in Virgo instead of Taurus which rules the 6H which represents analytics and observation ruled by Mercury which represents communication, technology and curiosity. Mercury would be in Virgo like we’re taught, however that then makes it Taurus which rules the 2H of money, possessions, assets and earnings. Taurus is ruled by Venus which represents love, money and beauty. Then Venus would be in Aquarius(opposite of Leo) which rules the 11H which is represented through truth, being upfront and detachment then the house of large groups, friendships and humanity. 

• Basically we need to be disciplined and patient regarding our responsibilities, to communicate our curiosity about money, earnings and assets. To have fun, be passionate and lead in terms of love, money and beauty. To analyze and observe communications and curiosities around life, your identity within relationships, ideas and activities.

These are the themes we look at as a whole for the upcoming year for the collective, then we can use the above to connect it to our own charts and personal themes for the year. Remember the themes will change with planets going into different signs and going retrograde throughout the year within the collective and as individuals.

This will be an amazing time to fast and cleanse yourself in many ways, body, mind, spirit, emotions and thoughts. Closing off, like I stated before the things you would like to let go of and intentions of what you’d like more of in the new year. It legitimately feels like a new year, it feels like a rebirth and we need to treat it as such. As humans, because we’re off the natural course of our own bodies and the course of the natural ways of the Earth(Gaia/Lefatshe), we tend to run into things that could’ve been avoided. 

Ideas of ways to end off the year like you would in December would be a celebration of the Sun rising again, even if it’s a small celebration. Journaling and creating mood boards for the new year and the things you’d like to manifest. Setting intentions for the new year and the end of this year. And cleansing yourself in every way possible.
